2012 Awards finalists are an inspiration to the merchant nation

LONDON: The judges have spoken and the finalists of the 2012 Builders' Merchants Awards for Excellence have been chosen. Their names are listed on the official Awards website. Click on to 'FINALISTS' at the top of the page to see the top names of the year.
This year's winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony on Friday 23 November at the Lancaster London, where over 400 of the industry's top players will gather to reward and applaud the leading companies in the UK merchant sector.
To arrive at their conclusions the judges worked their way through 93 shortlisted names of companies and individuals out of a grand total of the 239 nominations that were received this year.
The task was made even more difficult because the quality of each nomination was exceptionally high.
The panel presented and discussed their choices at Awards headquarters, in central London, yesterday.
This year's judges were: Howard Grant - managing director - United Merchants; Christine Harding - marketing manager Builders' Merchants Federation; Chris Hayward - managing director - NMBS; Andrew Pine - president Institute of Builders' Merchants; Simon Storer - communications and external affairs director - Construction Products Association; Andrew Day -master of the Worshipful Company of Builders' Merchants; Gary Amer - chief executive - Guild of Architectural Ironmongers and Peter Stephens - managing director of JA Stephens Nottingham and the recipient of 2011's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Two new faces for this year's panel were Chris Shoebottom - vice president of the Shop and Display Equipment Association and Paul Cowell the chairman of BALI, the British Association of Landscape Industries.
The 2012 Awards is being hosted by actor, presenter and impressionist, Chris Barrie who is currently starring in Red Dwarf X on the Dave channel.
