Travis Perkins sells London site for £23.8m

NORTHAMPTON: Travis Perkins has sold a site in North London for £23.8m to the Unite Group. Unite purchased the Camden site for a planned 563-bedroom student development.

The group secured planning permission in August 2011 for the project in partnership with Travis Perkins (Properties).

Under the terms of the deal, Unite will provide Travis with a ground floor trading unit once it is completed. Travis Perkins will continue trading until November in the existing scheme.

Construction of the 563-bedroom scheme will begin in December, with the property expected to be open in 2014. Mansell Construction has been appointed as the main contractor.

"We are pleased to have worked with Unite and Camden Council to create a brand new facility for our customers," said Marin Meech, group property director of Travis Perkins.

"We are hopeful of working with Camden elsewhere in the borough in order to preserve existing jobs at other branches which require redevelopment. Mixed-use developments of this type are essential for regeneration and maintaining existing jobs."
