LEICESTER: The National Merchant Buying Society is a finalist in the BCS & Computing UK IT Industry Awards for the 'Innovative Mobile App of the Year' award for its I-Exhibit app.
"This is a great achievement for NMBS and will be covered in Computing magazine," said managing director Chris Hayward.
"NMBS is dedicated to the continual development of its IT systems and we are therefore extremely proud to be a finalist for this award." Other nominees in the category include:
* Telefónica UK; Priority Moments
* Black Pepper; Companion
* Polycom; Polycom RealPresence Mobile
* Polymorph; Tactical Solutions
* Metricell; Tracesaver
* Fruitful Media; Keyboard Shortcuts - The Ultimate Guide
* AirWatch; AirWatch Global Deployment
* Metricell; NETcare - Connecting operators with their customers
The I-Exhibit app was developed for the NMBS Exhibition this year. It allowed suppliers at the event to scan QR codes embedded within delegates' badges. The scan captured the relevant contact information and enabled the supplier to store order details, follow up dates and even add the person as a contact on their smartphone.
David Clarke MBE, chief executive officer at the Chartered Institute for IT, said: "Congratulations to the finalists; they can be proud of their achievements in reaching this stage of our prestigious awards. We aim to demonstrate not only the innovation and professionalism of those working in IT but also the importance of IT in delivering business and social benefit."
Stuart Sumner, editor of Computing added: "I would like to congratulate the finalists. The UK IT Industry Awards are rigorously judged and to be announced as a finalist is a great achievement."
NMBS will be presenting its app to the IT judging panel later on this month.
Mr Hayward concluded: "NMBS is extremely proud of our whole IT team for their efforts in developing this app. Well done Andy Hextall, our head of IT, Jamie, Jatin, Kiril and Martin."
