UK: The time has come for all merchants large and small, suppliers and even merchants' customers to nominate the UK's finest companies and outstanding people. The Builders' Merchants Awards for Excellence, now in its 11th year, wants to hear from you!
The official Launch Brochure is out with the June edition of Builders' Merchants News. In it, you'll find categories that reward people - Trainee of the Year; Achiever of the Year, Merchant Manager of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award. There are sections for practical applications which have created major achievement for the nominator like Training Initiative of the Year Best Builders' Merchant Website; Best Customer Service by a Builders' Merchant and Best Merchant Marketing Initiative.
Does your company have something to shout about? The Independent Builders' Merchant of the Year (1-5 branches); Independent Builders' Merchant of the Year (6+ branches); Best Heating and Plumbing Merchant or National Builders' Merchant of the Year might be t he category for you.
The Builders' Merchant Environmental Initiative is a very pertinent category and should appeal to the merchant who has thrown themselves into eco issues and has reaped rewards from it.

This year, the Builders' Merchants Awards will also see the addition of two new judges – Paul Cowell from the British Association of Landscaping Industries (BALI) and Chris Smallbottom from the Shop and Display Equipment Association (SDEA) who will be bringing their skills to the panel. They will join Howard Grant, managing director of United Merchants plc, the largest builders' merchant co-operative in the country; Chris Hayward, the managing director of NMBS, the largest buying group for independent builders', timber, plumbers' and hardware merchants in the UK; Christine Harding, maketing manager of the Builders' Merchants Federation; Phil Newson, chief executive of Allgood Plc and president of Guild of Architectural Ironmongers; Gary Amer, managing director of GAI; Simon Storer, communications and external affairs director of the Construction Products Association; Andrew Pine, president of the Institute of Builders' Merchants and Peter Stephens, 2011's recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award and the managing director of John A Stephens, one of Nottingham's largest builders' merchants.
