Contracts offered on Twitter

Published:  02 May, 2012

LINCOLN: North Lincolnshire Council is advertising its contracts on Twitter. This is the first time the council has used social media to advertise its contracts.

When businesses want to find out what council contracts are coming up, they can now follow @nlcprocurement1 on Twitter to see all contracts with a value of over £10,000.

This follows on from new measures introduced just last month to improve access to opportunities and reduce red-tape – including cutting down on paperwork when bidding for contracts, and increased use of e-tendering and e-auctions.

Cllr Neil Poole, cabinet member for finance, procurement and IT at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We need to keep up with new technology and Twitter provides an excellent way to get our messages across simply and let potential businesses know what contracts are coming up at an early stage.

“I don’t know of many businesses that are not on Twitter, so it’s important that we reach out to them in many ways – not just using traditional ways of communicating.”
