BANBURY: Construction is to start on a retail park next year. LXB Retail Properties has been granted planning permission for construction of the Banbury Gateway Retail Park at Wildmere Road on the northern edge of the town.

Cherwell District Council supported the plan that involves demolishing existing buildings on the site and building a shopping centre.

Members at Cherwell District Council supported the plans, which involve demolishing the existing buildings on the site and redeveloping it to create a 295 000sq ft shopping park.

The retail park will have 10 retail and three restaurant/cafe units, including a 100 000sq ft anchor store which has been pre-let to Marks & Spencer for a 20-year lease.

The Banbury Gateway site covers approximately 12 acres and occupies a prominent position fronting the M40 at Junction 11. The development is expected to generate approximately 340 full-time jobs.
