NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS: Speedy Hire has agreed a £50m three-year extension to its preferred supplier agreement with construction company Carillion.

The deal runs until 2016 and will apply to all of Carillion's UK operations, including joint ventures where it is the lead company.

Steve Corcoran, chief executive at Speedy said: "I am delighted that we continue to develop our relationship with Carillion, one of the UK's largest construction and support services companies.

"This new agreement is another important step in our growth in our key markets of water, waste, energy and transport, all of which are undertaking major new infrastructure projects in the UK," he said.

Shares in Speedy rose 0.63% to 28.63p after the announcement. Last week, Speedy issued a positive trading update, saying underlying revenues in the three months to December were up 7.6%
