WORCESTERSHIRE: Chris Huhne, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, paid a visit to the headquarters of Worcester, Bosch Group to see the extensive manufacturing and training facilities and to talk about industry issues with staff at the company.
Following his tour of the factory, where high efficiency condensing boilers are manufactured and its £1.5m training academy, where thousands of installers attend courses throughout the year, Mr Huhne praised the company's focus on training for both installers and apprentices.
"The apprenticeship scheme here at Worcester, Bosch Group is absolutely crucial to the reputation that this company has for quality," he said. "Training is an extremely essential part of giving the customer a high quality service."
Mr Huhne then hosted a Q&A session with the press where he was questioned on a number of issues, including the Feed-in Tariff, the UK economy, the Renewable Heat Incentive and the Green Deal.
He was eager to draw attention to the basic things consumers can do to save energy and reduce fuel bills, "Consumers need to shop around in the short-term to switch to a cheaper supplier and take extra steps like insulating their homes," he said. "It also underlines the importance of having a good, efficient boiler to avoid wasting energy."
On the Feed-In Tariff Mr Huhne said: "The key thing we're trying to do with the Feed-in Tariff scheme is to make sure there is a sustainable business for the long-term. Worcester, Bosch Group is a good example of successful British manufacturing with high quality products and an effective operation."
Richard Soper, the company's chief executive, commented: "We were delighted to welcome Chris Huhne to our headquarters and pleased that he took the time to see for himself the level of time and investment we give to ensuring that we continue to manufacture the most efficient boilers we can and also to support our trade customers by providing comprehensive training.
"Worcester, Bosch Group is committed to helping reduce the UK's reliance on fossil fuels by providing homeowners with products that enable them to reduce their annual cost of heating and hot water bills."
