Simmons buys Chase Golf club

Published:  24 July, 2009

STAFFORD: Chris Simmons, owner of Simmons of Stafford Builders' Merchants has acquired Chase Golf Club for £1.65m.

Mr Simmons said the purchase of the club at Pottal Pool Road in Penkridge was part of a diversification of his business interests. "Chase has a lot of potential," he said.

"The clubhouse is a huge building and 30% of the site is not developed. I am looking at the potential for development of the club."

The club is set on a 160-acre site and has an 18-hole, 6641-yard par 72 course, large clubhouse, 20-bay golf range and shop. Crown Golf, one of the UK's largest golf course owners, previously owned it.

Simmons of Stafford, founded in 1975 by Chris Simmons' father Peter, has been at its present site on the Tollgate Industrial Estate for 16 years.
