Wolseley's SBC – a carbon positive pioneer.

Wolseley shows off its green roof

Published:  24 July, 2009

LEAMINGTON SPA: An Alumasc ZinCo green roof system is currently being showcased at construction materials distributor Wolseley's Sustainable Building Center.

Designed by ECD Architects of London as a living interactive display of renewable technologies and sustainable materials for building and water conservation projects, the £3.2m Center at Leamington Spa enables industry decision-makers to gain first-hand experience of around 170 sustainable products and offers a resource for design and specification advice.

The SBC has won numerous awards and Wolseley was recently announced as the winner of the 'Carbon Positive Pioneer' award at the West Midlands C+ Carbon Positive Awards 2009 in recognition of its Center.

The Alumasc ZinCo Extensive green roof system was installed by Apex Roofing and Cladding of Birmingham. This sedum green roof system was applied over the Derbigum high performance waterproofing membrane, also from Alumasc, for maximum life expectancy and durability.

Alumasc green roofs vary from extensive and biodiverse types, which require minimal irrigation and maintenance, to Intensive green roofs which require regular tending.

All types of green roof offer notable ecological benefits, providing a natural habitat for plants and wildlife, while helping to reduce air and noise pollution, cutting carbon emissions and assisting with rainwater management.
