Partnership tackles carbon emissions

Published:  24 July, 2009

BRISTOL: Lafarge Plasterboard and Wincanton, the logistics specialist, have teamed up to provide the supplier with…

a fleet of teardrop trailers, helping to reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change.

Claimed to be the first of its kind in the construction industry, the deal will feature 25 trailers, designed and manufactured by Don-Bur.

The fleet, said Lafarge, will reduce the company's carbon emissions by 120 tonnes a year.

This is achieved by the improved aerodynamics of the teardrop fleet which reduces fuel consumption by 8%. Each trailer also has the added benefit of being able to carry up to 16% more cargo.

Richard Buxton, operations director for Lafarge Plasterboard, said: "The construction industry as a whole has a huge roll to play in combating climate change and help the UK reach its carbon reduction targets by 2016."
