SWANSEA: A man has appeared in court to face allegations of theft of equipment worth more than £20 000 from various tool hire companies.

Royston Desmond Millett is accused of stealing from Travis Perkins, Ready Tool Hire and Brandon Hire in Llanelli as well as HSS Tool Hire in Cwmdu.

The 39-year-old, of Celvis Court, South Cornelly, entered no plea to all 11 allegations when he appeared at Swansea Magistrates' Court yesterday.

It is the prosecution's case that Mr Millett committed the offences between February 2010 and March this year. Lisa Jones, prosecuting, said it was the Crown's case that more than £20 000 of equipment had been taken by Mr Millett.

The charges allege that he stole items including a Nikita heavy duty breaker and a Hilta diaphragm pump valued at £3235.

Another alleges that between 2 February 2010, and 31 August 2010, Mr Millett, who was represented by defence solicitor Alex Scott in court, stole a diesel mixer and plate compactor valued at £3480 from Ready Tool Hire.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction in the case.

Mr Millett was bailed on the grounds that he reside at his Bridgend address. He will next appear on 20 December for committal to Crown Court.
