Carole Green: are your suppliers complying?

Suppliers not taking back damaged plasterboard

Published:  17 October, 2011

UK: When a plasterboard supplier stopped taking back damaged board, merchants alerted the Builders' Merchants Federation. It promptly sent out a call to its members find out how widespread the problem was.

"This week BMF reported to the Plasterboard Sustainability Partnership about the issue of non-take-back," said product support manager, Carole Green.

"The result was that all three UK suppliers of plasterboard have signed the Ashdown Agreement, under which they accepted an obligation to collect merchants' plasterboard waste.

"WRAP and the GPDA are the custodians of the Ashdown Agreement and they want to know whether what we have reported is an isolated incident, or if it is much more widespread," said Ms Green.

Concerned merchants should contact the BMF.
