Artificial turf sales soar

Published:  09 August, 2010

LONDON: The dry summer is reckoned to have boosted sales of fake grass with sales up by one-third on this time last year.

B&Q has sold 22 000m2, more than twice as much fake grass as expected when it launched the product earlier this year.

Evergreens, Britain's biggest artificial grass supplier, said peak sales this summer had hit 15 000m2 a week, 35% higher than last year, according to a report in The Independent.

B&Q launched the product, priced at £10m2 earlier this year. "Initially, it was only a 10-store trial to establish if there was a market for it, but it's now in 113 stores and selling well across the country," a spokesman for the company said.
