Published:  17 May, 2010

A greater percentage of national firms (50%) put up prices than local chains or independents (21%).

Price forecasts

A net 64% of merchants expect to raise their prices of timber fire doors over the next 12 months, compared with the previous 12 months (Chart 4).

None of the companies interviewed anticipated reducing them. More large and mid-sized merchants (78%) envisage raising prices than small firms (39%). Companies in the North and Midlands (75%) are more likely to increase prices than those in the South.

Prospects

A net 36% of merchants are more optimistic now about the overall prospects for the timber fire door market than three months ago as shown in Chart 5.

The main reason is a noticeable increase in enquiries. Small and large firms (48%) are twice as optimistic as mid-sized companies (24%). Merchants in the Midlands (70%) are more bullish than those in other regions (28%).
