BINLEY: Alan Penny, the business development director at Greenworks, the rapidly-growing sustainable building solutions specialist, was quick to respond to the …

recent survey findings by the Energy Saving Trust – Plumbers win battle of the trades, published on 2 June on this site.

"While it’s encouraging that 81% of plumbers would offer environmental advice, more must be done to ensure that guidance on sustainability is as instinctive as the actual plumbing repairs and maintenance work,” he stated.

"Greenworks specialises in sustainable building solutions, including renewable energy, heating and water conservation systems, which are available through the national branch network of Graham and its sister companies, including Jewson and Ashworth.

“We recently launched a training academy in partnership with PPL Training.

“This aims to provide training on environmental issues that will equip delegates with the knowledge required to deal with the products of the future.

“The heating and hot water industry is rapidly changing and becoming a crucial vehicle in terms of reducing the UK's carbon footprint and there is a wealth of sustainable products currently available.

“So, while we applaud this increased availability, ensuring that installers are trained to use them is an even bigger step, we believe that the Academy will go some way to address this and increase the industry's sustainability credentials."
