Retailers face a slow Easter

Published:  02 April, 2010

LONDON: Blame the weather! The Met Office is warning that the Easter weekend looks set to be a chilly one. Spring is bringing a spell of unsettled weather frustrating DIY retailers who were expecting one of the busiest weekends for garden and household purchases.

As well as heavy rain, forecasters are predicting heavy snow will cause disruption across high ground, creating travel chaos for motorists. The Met Office also warns that strong winds with gales on some coasts will make conditions feel even colder.

The snow and heavy rain has already caused power cuts to more than 48 000 homes across Northern Ireland.

Drivers have been struggling to deal with the surprise downturn in the weather cars stranded in Northern Ireland after becoming stuck in the snow. Road conditions are also extremely poor in many parts of Scotland.
