Boiler scrappage pleas ignored

UK: Industry calls for an extension to the boiler scrappage scheme have been ignored by the Government.

The boiler scrappage scheme is now closed to new applicants, the Government said, despite reasoned arguments from industry to extend it.

The boiler scrappage scheme has been a major success. The Chancellor's refusal to extend it could mean that the  interest it has generated among installers and homeowners in energy efficiency could be lost.

Hopes had been high that the success of the scheme, which has seen more than 118 000 applications for funding received in less than three months, would be extended further.

There are over 4.5 million Band G boilers still in operation, so an extension to the scheme would have provided a welcome post-recession boost for the domestic heating sector.
