Timely funding for green infrastructure

UK: The Budget also addressed gaps in 'green financing', with the creation of a the Green Investment Bank. Its mandate will be to invest in low-carbon infrastructure.

The Government will start by investing £1bn from the sale of infrastructure-related assets and will seek to match this with at least £1bn of private sector investment.

The Green Investment Bank will invest in the low-carbon sector. It will consider new energy and transport projects in particular, where the funding gap is pronounced. The Green Investment Fund will focus initially on off-shore wind electricity generation.
