Council endorses C&S Builders' Merchants

Published:  25 February, 2010

LONDON: C&S Builders’ Merchants in Stamford Hill is one of the first two businesses to become a Buy with Confidence trader under a Trading Standards checking system.

The new vetting scheme run by the local authority provides the council's seal of approval. Under the scheme, the company is entered into a national database of businesses that consumers can trust.

Councillor Alan Laing, cabinet member for neighbourhoods said: "We're proud of the first two Hackney businesses to become 'Buy with Confidence' traders. They have proven that they can be relied upon to deliver a quality service that Hackney residents can trust. We urge other Hackney businesses to get on board for the scheme and reap the benefits of a kite mark that is becoming more recognisable to customers looking for a fair deal."

Membership of the Buy with Confidence scheme costs businesses £100 a year.

C&S is probably East and North London's largest independent timber, building materials and plumbing supplier. The three-branch operation includes a central distribution depot.

The family-owned firm opened in 1986 and now has 40 staff, chosen, said the company "for their knowledge and experience within all trades".
