PORTSMOUTH: The widow of George Day, founder of GA Day Builders' Merchants, who died last year, has left over a £1m to various local charities.

Irene Day's estate provided legacies of between £3000 and £100 000 for 16 small charities including animal charities, a church and an amateur dramatic group, in the area.
