BIRMINGHAM: Amid the brouhaha over the sale of Cadbury to a foreign buyer spare a thought for what is left of the building material manufacturing industry. Once fine British names like Pilkington, Hanson, ICI, and Blue Circle, to name but a few, are now in foreign hands.

The majority of Britons stood by in silence as these great businesses were taken over. It takes the sale of strategically less important British company, a chocolate maker, to an American company famous for selling plastic cheese and processed meat before anyone sees a problem.
