Bringing bricks to Scotland.

Brick manufacturer to open Glasgow depot

Published:  23 October, 2009

GLASGOW: Wienerberger is due to open its first ever Scottish distribution centre next month. The brick manufacturer is improving service for customers north of the border with the launch of a stockyard at Shettleston in Glasgow.

The site is located within range of the local motorway network and is situated close to the junction of four major motorways. The M74, which links Glasgow to the eastern and southern regions of Scotland is a five minute drive from the depot while the M8, which enables ease of access to the west, is eight minutes away. These both offer quick routes to the M73 and M80 northern gateways.

It is intended that the new facility will stock a wide range of products, in terms of colour, texture and technical criteria, reflecting the requirements of customers in the Scottish market, as highlighted during a recent consultation exercise undertaken with a number of key clients.

Flexible delivery will be a key component of the new depot, which is due to go live from Monday, 16 November. Customers will not only be able to order mixed loads, thereby accessing competitive delivery rates and reducing demand on their own storage facilities, but will also be invited to take advantage of the rapid 48-hour delivery service. Customers sourcing smaller loads will also find they can purchase individual pallets of brick directly from the site.

Jim Currie, Wienerberger area sales manager for Scotland, said customers would soon see the benefits of having a local depot on their doorstep.

“Scotland is an important market for Wienerberger and we are pleased to be able to provide this new offering for our customers in the area.

“With Wienerberger’s mixed load facility we can help reduce the storage problems created by bulk deliveries by tailoring the order to meet specific requirements, thereby helping builders’ merchants maintain greater control over their stock.

“In the prevailing economic conditions is vitally important for suppliers to consider their customers’ needs and respond to their requirements. We have listened to what our valued clients have to say and believe this depot will provide the choice of products and flexibility of delivery which they want.”
