Last month, Marie Stonall from F & P, Primaflow and Connections took part in a hair-raising fundraising event, ‘braving the shave’ to raise more than £1,400 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Marie, a Customer Service Team Leader for Primaflow, explained: “My family has been affected by cancer and I wanted to do something to support the wonderful work that Macmillan does. I have never shaved my head before so I was slightly apprehensive, but my colleagues were so supportive and we ended up turning it into a really enjoyable event.”

On the day, Primaflow’s Birmingham-based sales office was transformed into a temporary salon, with Marie’s manager Matt Wallace acting as hairdresser. Colleagues rallied round to help, baking an array of treats and collecting money which was added to that raised via Marie’s online page.

Discussing her new hairstyle a few days after the event, Marie commented: “I am actually quite enjoying it, and even considering keeping it this length now! I think every woman should give it a go once in their lives as a radical change of style - and if you can raise money for a fantastic cause along the way, then so much the better!”

More than 11,000 people have braved the shave for Macmillan this year, raising in excess of £2.4 million. Marie’s page is still open at bravetheshave.macmillan.org.uk/shavers/marie--stonall
